Western Odisha Faces Intense Downpours; Baragarh Sees Highest Rainfall

Bhubaneswar: Over the past day, various districts in western Odisha have been subjected to significant to very heavy rainfall, despite the overall state average being within normal limits.

The Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar reported that Baragarh district topped the rainfall chart with 109 mm recorded at the Bijepur station. Following closely were Sundargarh and Jharsuguda, reporting 106 mm at Balishankara and 105.6 mm at Kolabira station, respectively.

Additionally, Barapali in Baragarh received 100 mm of rain, and Dunguripali in Sonepur recorded 93 mm.

Other areas such as Sambalpur, Bolangir, and parts of Jharsuguda also noted significant rainfall, with many stations measuring between 60 to 89 mm over the last 24 hours.

The average rainfall for Odisha during this period was reported at 10.8 mm, aligning perfectly with the normal levels, resulting in no deviation from the average.

While the western and northern districts enjoyed substantial rainfall, many regions in the south and along the coast remained largely dry, experiencing little to no precipitation.
