The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for five districts in Odisha, warning residents about the potential for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. The affected districts include Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nuapada, and Nabarangpur.
Officials predict heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds, which may reach speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. This warning is in effect until April 4. Meteorologists have observed that while interior Odisha is experiencing hot conditions, coastal areas are relatively cooler.
On April 3, the IMD issued a yellow warning for heat in Ganjam, Gajapati, and Puri, while Nuapada and Nabarangpur received a yellow warning for thunderstorms. The department also pointed out the risk of discomfort due to humidity, advising residents to take necessary precautions.
The current weather pattern indicates a combination of intense daytime heat and evening showers. Authorities have recommended that people stay indoors during lightning events and avoid open fields. Farmers have been advised to safeguard their standing crops from sudden rain and strong winds.
The IMD has indicated that significant weather changes are expected starting April 5, with the possibility of heavy rain and thunderstorms intensifying in localized areas, raising safety and preparedness concerns.
