Severe heatwave conditions continue across Odisha despite the ongoing influence of Kalbaisakhi in certain areas. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a further increase in daytime temperatures over the next three days, with mercury expected to rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across the state.
According to the weather department, temperatures in Balangir, Titilagarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur may reach 44°C by May 19 and 20. Coastal Odisha is also anticipated to experience extreme heat, with temperatures likely hovering around 42°C.
On Sunday, 11 cities in the state recorded temperatures exceeding 40°C, with Boudh being the hottest location at a maximum temperature of 42.9°C.
The IMD further indicated that Kalbaisakhi activity will persist across Odisha until May 24, with a more pronounced impact expected in north and south Odisha, bringing chances of rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several districts.
Previously, the Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre had predicted a change in weather conditions, noting that while the intensity of the heatwave would increase in the coming days, Kalbaisakhi rains could offer temporary relief in some regions.
A yellow warning has also been issued for several districts in north and south Odisha due to the potential for thunderstorms and strong winds over the next few days.
