Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has assured that there is an adequate supply of fertilizer to fulfill farmers’ needs during the current agricultural season, with no anticipated shortages, stated Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta on Monday.
He cautioned that those engaged in black marketing and illegal fertilizer trading would face severe consequences.
Addressing the media, Samanta noted that a significant amount of fertilizer has already been received by the state, and efforts have been made to ensure proper distribution among farmers.
“Fertilizer availability in the state is sufficient. As of July 17, 2026, the Cooperation Department has received 1,81,810 tonnes of fertilizer,” he stated.
The minister indicated that the Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment Department would handle this year’s fertilizer procurement. Following government guidelines, 60% of the purchased fertilizer will be allocated to the Cooperation Department for distribution through cooperative channels.
“Out of the 1,81,810 tonnes received, all of it has been dispatched, with 1,14,874 tonnes already distributed to farmers. Currently, approximately 1.60 lakh to 1.62 lakh tonnes are available in storage,” Samanta explained.
He reassured that there would be no fertilizer crisis in the state this year, stating that the government is actively monitoring the supply situation to guarantee timely access for farmers.
“The state government is aware of the situation, and all necessary arrangements have been made. There will be no problem regarding fertilizer supply this year,” the minister emphasized.
Samanta also mentioned that directives have been issued to all relevant agencies to combat black marketing and hoarding of fertilizer. He reiterated that strict penalties would be enforced against anyone caught participating in such illicit activities.
“All agencies have been instructed not to indulge in black marketing. If anyone is found involved, the government will take stringent action against them. The department is keeping a close watch on the situation, and I have personally reviewed the matter as well,” he added.
