Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], May 13 (ANI): Abhilash Panda, the President of the Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha, stated that the austerity measures proposed by Prime Minister Modi are crucial given the current global circumstances stemming from the West Asian crisis.
“If we consider the situation of India now, it is dependent on imports for its daily necessities. Many things like oil and gold are imported from outside the country,” Panda remarked during an interview with ANI in Bhubaneswar.
He further noted that the Prime Minister has highlighted practices aimed at alleviating economic burdens and enhancing the nation’s self-reliance.
“The PM has said to practice natural farming, work from home and reduce our reliance on petrol to strengthen the economy of the country. These are important steps considering the current situation of the world,” he added.
Panda’s comments come amid rising concerns regarding the effects of the escalating West Asia crisis on global supply chains, fuel prices, and economic stability.
Earlier today, West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh also expressed support for the Prime Minister, asserting that despite global instability, India remains secure under Modi’s leadership.
“The whole world is in chaos, and we are celebrating. People don’t even feel that there is a war going on in the world. Under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the country is safe,” Ghosh stated while speaking to ANI in Kolkata.
He further pointed out the economic situation amid the international crisis, saying, “The prices of diesel and petrol have not increased; people have been alerted that the situation is not good.”
These remarks follow PM Modi’s appeal in Secunderabad on Sunday, where he urged citizens to prioritize working from home, reduce fuel consumption, avoid foreign travel for a year, embrace Swadeshi products, minimize cooking oil usage, shift to natural farming, and limit gold purchases.
He emphasized the necessity of decreasing reliance on imports, stating that every household should reduce edible oil consumption and transition to natural farming to conserve foreign currency and protect the environment.
Addressing the burden of fertilizer imports, the Prime Minister mentioned that India spends a considerable amount of foreign exchange on importing chemical fertilizers and encouraged farmers to lessen their usage.
To address the fluctuations in fuel prices, PM Modi advocated for a change in transportation habits. He urged citizens to lower petrol and diesel consumption by utilizing metro and public transport when available, carpooling when private vehicles are needed, preferring railway transport for goods movement, and increasing the use of electric vehicles whenever possible.
