New Delhi [India], August 20 (ANI): On Thursday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that the Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has made the decision to establish a bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in Ladakh.
Shah emphasized that this initiative will facilitate better access to justice for individuals residing in the isolated regions of Ladakh by decreasing the time necessary to obtain legal services.
In a message posted on X, Shah stated, “The Union Cabinet, under the leadership of the PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, has decided to set up a bench of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir in Ladakh.”
He reiterated the government’s dedication to the comprehensive development of Ladakh and the provision of constitutional protections for the Union Territory.
“This will significantly enhance access to justice for citizens living in remote areas of Ladakh by reducing the time required to avail themselves of the legal services they are entitled to. The government is fully committed to the all-round development of Ladakh and to ensuring constitutional safeguards,” the post elaborated.
On August 5, 2019, the Indian government revoked Articles 370 and 35A, which had previously granted special status to the former state of Jammu and Kashmir. As a result of this change, the state was reorganized into two distinct Union Territories: Jammu and Kashmir, which has a legislature, and Ladakh, which does not.
In related news, on Wednesday, the Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Modi, approved two significant infrastructure initiatives designed to enhance connectivity and stimulate economic growth.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) authorized four major railway multitracking projects across West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, with an estimated investment of Rs 9,450 crore. Additionally, the Cabinet greenlit the upgrade of the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi-Sonbarsa section of NH-22 in Bihar to a four-lane standard, involving a capital expenditure of Rs 3,590.73 crore. (ANI)
