A serene day took a devastating turn on Saturday when two young boys were swept away by powerful currents while bathing in the Subarnarekha River near Rajpur, located in Odisha’s Baleshwar district.
Initial reports indicate that the two minors had ventured to the riverbank for a swim. Unfortunately, they were quickly overpowered by the fast-moving water, losing their balance and being carried into deeper sections of the river in an instant.
Witnesses along the riverbank raised an alarm, which prompted nearby villagers to respond. Local residents bravely entered the water in an attempt to rescue the boys, but the strong current hampered their efforts.
Upon receiving the distress call, the Fire Services department and local police promptly arrived on the scene to initiate a comprehensive search and rescue mission. Fire service personnel, alongside local divers and community members, are actively scouring downstream in hopes of finding the missing boys.
As news of this tragic event spread, the community in Rajpur was engulfed in sorrow and anxiety. Family members and concerned villagers have gathered along the riverbank, clinging to hope as the rescue operations continue into the evening. Details regarding the identities of the minors are still pending.
