Chaos engulfed the Odisha Assembly on its second day today, resulting in the abrupt suspension of proceedings just five minutes after they began.

The session, which commenced at 10:30 AM under the leadership of Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi, was adjourned until 4:00 PM due to severe disruptions caused by members from both the ruling party and the opposition.

From the outset, tensions flared as legislators clashed over significant political and public concerns. Congress members entered the assembly adorned with protest posters and vocally expressed their discontent from the well of the House. The situation escalated further when Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati threw posters at the Deputy Speaker’s podium, intensifying the disturbance.

Protests from both factions heightened, with Congress drawing attention to the MMDR (Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation) matter while BJD members protested against a contentious book issue.

Despite multiple requests from Deputy Speaker Bhabani Shankar Bhoi for members to restore order and return to their seats, the uproar persisted. With the House unable to regain composure and meaningful discussions rendered impossible, the Deputy Speaker had no choice but to adjourn the session until 4:00 PM.

This premature adjournment has postponed several vital legislative discussions planned for the morning, leaving the continuation of business reliant on the restoration of order later in the day.
