Bhubaneswar: In the last day, several weather stations in northern Odisha, especially in Mayurbhanj district, experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to IMD statistics, Bangiriposhi in Mayurbhanj recorded the highest rainfall at 159.0 mm, followed by Chandanpur with 99.6 mm and Bijatala at 90.0 mm, both also located in the same district. Other significant rainfall amounts included 73.0 mm in Bhogorai, Baleshwar, 72.0 mm in Sarasakana, Mayurbhanj, 58.4 mm in Joda, Kendujhar, 56.0 mm in Jamda, Mayurbhanj, and 53.0 mm in Remuna, Baleshwar.

Mayurbhanj was the standout for rainfall figures. Despite these localized heavy showers, the overall average rainfall across the state remained notably deficient, measuring only 4.5 mm compared to the normal level of 12.1 mm, which reflects a decrease of 63%.
