Sambalpur: A 36-year-old meat trader was shot and killed in broad daylight by assailants in Burla, located in Odisha’s Sambalpur district, on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Md Anish, who was well-known in the community for his trade.

As per initial reports, the shooting occurred at Kirba Chhak when assailants fired three shots at close range, resulting in Anish’s immediate death.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting was the result of a personal dispute and a long-standing grievance between the individuals involved. Authorities have apprehended one suspect, identified as Raja Swami from Mangala Bazar in Jharsuguda, who is currently in custody at the Burla police station.

The firearm used in the shooting has been recovered by the police. Investigations are ongoing.

Law enforcement officials have stated that the incident seems to be confined to a personal conflict, with no signs indicating a broader threat to public safety at this time.
