In a noteworthy crackdown on corruption, the Odisha Vigilance has apprehended Himanshu Das, the former Managing Director of Betnoti LAMPCS Ltd. in the Mayurbhanj district, for misappropriating society funds amounting to Rs 40.94 lakh.
Das is set to be presented before the Special Judge, Vigilance Court in Baripada following his arrest.
The allegations stem from significant financial irregularities that occurred during the fiscal year 2017-18 at Betnoti LAMPCS Ltd.
While in his role as Managing Director, Das reportedly collected considerable sums from local farmers for the repayment of agricultural loans, member share capital contributions, application fees, and administrative charges.
He provided receipts to the farmers to acknowledge these payments; however, instead of transferring the collected amounts into the society’s account, he intentionally failed to record these transactions in the official Day Book of the organization. This allowed him to misappropriate a total of Rs 40,94,306 for his personal use.
In connection with this case, a complaint has been registered under Baleshwar Vigilance PS Case No.12 dated 30.07.2026, citing violations of Section 13(2) and Section 13(1)(c) of the P.C. Act of 1988 and Section 409 of the IPC against Himanshu Das, who was dismissed from government service on April 4, 2022.
Investigations into this matter are ongoing.
