In western Odisha, communities came together to celebrate Sambalpuri Day (Sambalpuri Din) with vibrant traditional expressions, wearing Sambalpuri handloom garments, savoring local cuisines, and engaging in cultural activities that honor the area’s artistic and linguistic legacy.

Annually observed on August 1, this day honors the birth of Guru Satya Narayan Bohidar, a key figure in the preservation and advancement of the Sambalpuri language. Born in 1913, Bohidar created the Sambalpuri Bhasakosh, the first dictionary for the language, and authored numerous literary pieces, including Tik Chahnra, Ghuvkudu, and Ghavghavo.

The Sambalpuri language is prevalent in nine districts of western Odisha: Sambalpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Nuapada, and Subarnapur, playing a crucial role in the region’s cultural identity.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi extended his greetings to the public, describing Sambalpuri language, folk arts, music, dance, and handloom as
