Bhubaneswar: The monsoon activity in Odisha intensified on Sunday due to an active low-pressure area located over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the adjacent coast of West Bengal and Odisha. In response, the Regional Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for six districts, forecasting continued heavy rainfall for the upcoming five days.

The weather bureau indicated that this low-pressure system is anticipated to gain strength in the next 48 hours, leading to extensive rainfall throughout the coastal, northern, western, and interior regions of the state.

A red warning has been designated for Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, and Kendujhar, where certain areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Additionally, an orange alert has been issued for Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Boudhgada, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada. Meanwhile, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Deogada, Sonpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Ganjam are under a yellow alert due to expected heavy rain and thunderstorms.
