Bhubaneswar: Naveen Patnaik, the Leader of Opposition in the Odisha Assembly and president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), expressed his demand on Sunday for a discussion in Parliament concerning the recent NEET paper leak. He also urged the central government to engage in a constructive dialogue with the students who are protesting against the incident.
In a post on his X account, Patnaik noted, “For millions of children in our country, education remains the only path to a brighter future. Every developed nation is built upon a strong education system and a transparent, credible examination process. India too has made remarkable progress because of the strength of its education system.”
He continued by highlighting that the education system has produced generations of exceptional professionals, including doctors, scientists, engineers, teachers, and innovators who have contributed to modern India. However, in light of the recent question paper leaks, Patnaik emphasized that trust in this system has been severely compromised.
“The damage goes far beyond a failed exam. It shatters faith in the very foundation of the education system. It tells deserving students that hard work no longer matters, and robs them of their only ladder out of poverty,” he asserted.
He underscored that a nation that undermines the integrity of its examination system is jeopardizing its future. Patnaik argued that this critical issue, which impacts millions of students nationwide, should be prioritized in Parliament.
Patnaik insisted that the matter warrants an in-depth discussion in Parliament, which he referred to as the temple of democracy, leading to effective reforms that prevent future occurrences of paper leaks, inaccurate assessments, and systemic failures. He called for accountability for this breach of trust.
“Setting politics aside, I urge the government to begin a meaningful conversation with the students who have been peacefully protesting for days. They deserve a platform to articulate their concerns. A vibrant democracy thrives on dialogue, not silence, especially when it involves the youth of our nation. Our children and young people are looking to us for guidance. We must not let them down,” the BJD president stated.
He concluded by emphasizing that sincere and open-minded dialogue with the peaceful protesters can help restore faith in both our democracy and education system, as well as in the leadership responsible for shaping their futures. Patnaik expressed the regional party’s support for the protests, affirming that the BJD stands firmly with the nation’s youth and students.
