On Sunday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the CBSE On-Screen Marking (OSM) controversy, pointing out that while Modi discussed mangoes during his monthly radio address, he neglected to address the concerns of 18.5 lakh students whose answer sheets were scanned using mobile phones.
Gandhi, who serves as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, stated that Modi’s silence on the OSM issue has shifted from mere indifference to ‘complicity’. During his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ broadcast, Modi mentioned the popularity of mangoes in summer, highlighting various regional varieties.
Gandhi took to X to reveal that the CBSE’s May 2025 tender originally required answer sheets to be scanned with robotic scanners at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI, but the revised tender in August changed the requirements, leading to the use of mobile phones for scanning.
He described the resulting issues, such as blurred copies and missing pages, as not mere errors but as a predictable outcome of a contract tailored for a vendor. He called this situation fraud and emphasized that every student affected by the incorrect evaluation is a victim.
Gandhi further remarked on Modi’s focus on mangoes while neglecting the plight of students, asserting that the Prime Minister’s inaction indicates complicity. He also shared a video of his interaction with students who had posed simple questions to the government but received insults instead of answers, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring a bright future for them.
