On Friday, police in Bhubaneswar arrested a man for allegedly posing as an officer of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the capital city of Odisha. He was detained at the Kharavela Nagar police station, where he was reportedly trying to coerce officers into taking action regarding a case involving a female friend.
Sources indicate that the suspect arrived at the police station and urged the officers to expedite the handling of the case. He claimed to be an NIA officer and presented a counterfeit identity card. Additionally, he arrived in a vehicle resembling a police car, which had a Tamil Nadu license plate and displayed stickers from the Government of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs. His suspicious behavior prompted the police to contact the regional NIA office for verification.
The regional NIA office confirmed that the individual was an impostor, resulting in his arrest. Authorities have confiscated his vehicle, along with the fake documents and identity card. An investigation is ongoing to determine if he has defrauded others for financial gain using his fraudulent government identity.
