Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a rise in daytime temperatures by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius across many regions of Odisha over the next 6 to 7 days.
The regional weather office has reported that a low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal is unlikely to develop into a depression. However, it may evolve into a well-marked low-pressure system within the next 48 hours, although the likelihood of it becoming a depression remains minimal.
Despite this, the weather department anticipates a steady increase in temperatures throughout the state. On Tuesday, western Odisha experienced extreme heat, with Titlagarh recording the highest maximum temperature of 40°C, followed closely by Sambalpur at 39.9°C, Jharsuguda at 39.2°C, and Bhawanipatna at 39°C.
The IMD predicts that on Wednesday and Thursday, most areas in western Odisha could see temperatures around 40°C. Coastal regions are expected to be cooler, with maximum temperatures ranging from 35°C to 38°C. On May 15 and 16, western and interior districts of Odisha may reach a blistering 41°C, while temperatures in coastal and southern Odisha are forecasted to remain below 40°C.
Additionally, several locations in northern Odisha are likely to experience thunderstorms and rain until May 16. Residents, particularly in western and interior areas, are advised to take necessary precautions against the rising heat, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours.
