Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will participate in an important consultation meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and West Bengal BJP leaders in Kolkata on Friday. This meeting is part of the party’s efforts to select its legislature party leader, who is expected to take the oath of office as chief minister on Saturday.

Majhi, appointed as the BJP central co-observer for this process on Tuesday, has already had discussions with Shah regarding the matter. His appointment represents his first significant political role outside of Odisha and reflects the central leadership’s increasing confidence in him, just two years after his unexpected rise to the position of chief minister.

A four-time tribal MLA, Majhi’s swift ascent within the party has garnered attention, with the role in Bengal viewed as politically important, despite its secondary status in protocol. According to BJP sources, Shah and Majhi will engage in further discussions with newly elected MLAs and key state leaders before the BJP legislature party meeting scheduled for Friday afternoon.

This meeting will officially elect the legislature party leader, whose name is anticipated to be revealed in the presence of Shah and Majhi. Sources also indicated that Majhi will remain in Kolkata for the swearing-in ceremony of the new BJP chief minister, which is expected to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP national president Nitin Nabin, various Union ministers, and chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from BJP-led states.
