Severe Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected in Gujarat, Delhi NCR, and MP

The monsoon season is actively shaping weather conditions throughout India, leading to significant rain, overcast skies, and cooler temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heavy to very heavy rainfall across various regions of the country in the days ahead.

As per the weather department’s updates, Gujarat is forecasted to experience substantial rainfall, while thunderstorms and heavy showers are anticipated in areas including Rajasthan, Delhi NCR, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, and other northeastern states.

Widespread Rainfall Expected

The IMD has cautioned about fairly widespread to extensive rainfall affecting several locations, including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit, and Uttarakhand, from July 25 to July 30. Punjab is likely to see significant rainfall on July 25 and from July 28 to July 30, while Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi NCR, and Uttar Pradesh are also expected to receive rainfall during the same period. In Rajasthan, both eastern and western regions may experience widespread rain on July 25.

In central India, regions in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are projected to receive widespread rainfall from July 25 to July 30, with similar conditions expected in parts of eastern India, including Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Sikkim, Bihar, and Odisha.

Scattered Rainfall Forecast

Isolated to scattered rainfall is anticipated in Punjab from July 26 to July 27, along with some areas in Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi NCR during July 25 to July 27. Additional rainfall is also expected in states like Bihar and Odisha throughout the period from July 25 to July 30. Meanwhile, Mumbai and the Konkan region might see heavy to isolated rainfall in the days to come.

Thunderstorms and Wind Alerts

Isolated thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 30-50 kmph are likely in Jammu-Kashmir, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands during the July 25 to July 30 timeframe. Additionally, Bengaluru is expected to encounter thunderstorms with strong winds on July 25, though widespread rain is not predicted for the city; scattered showers and brisk winds are expected across parts of Karnataka.

The ongoing monsoon conditions are anticipated to remain active across the country, primarily due to a low-pressure system located over southeastern Rajasthan and adjacent Madhya Pradesh, coupled with the monsoon trough and several cyclonic circulations. These weather phenomena are likely to sustain rainfall activity across northwest, central, western, and northeastern India in the upcoming days.
