The low-pressure system that has been affecting Odisha is now moving away, heading in a south-north-south direction over the next 24 hours.

Bhubaneswar: A new low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has caused heavy rainfall across various districts in Odisha for several days. However, this system has weakened and is expected to shift direction soon.

As of 5:30 AM on Saturday, the low pressure was situated over Chhattisgarh and its surrounding regions. A cyclonic circulation associated with this low pressure remains active at an altitude of 9.4 kilometers above sea level.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is monitoring the low pressure system and the accompanying cyclonic activity closely.

On Saturday morning, both Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, and the sacred city of Puri experienced significant rainfall.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for five districts—Naupada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangapur, and Koraput—due to the potential for heavy rainfall. Additionally, warnings have been placed for 14 districts regarding thunderstorms and lightning today.

Although the heavy rainfall is predicted to diminish starting tomorrow, the regional meteorological office has issued a yellow warning for 13 districts, anticipating possible lightning and thunderstorms in those areas as well.
