Odisha Prepares for Visit of President Droupadi Murmu and PM Narendra Modi

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is preparing for the visit of President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 20, with the government announcing that the state will receive developmental projects worth several thousand crores of rupees on this occasion. The two highest constitutional officials are slated to attend a ceremony marking the second anniversary of Odisha’s BJP government.

“June 20 is also the birth anniversary of our President, who is returning to her ‘karma bhoomi’ Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district. On this day, both the President and the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for numerous development projects collectively valued at several thousand crore rupees,” an official statement indicated.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reviewed the security and other preparations for the event. The projects set to be launched by Murmu and Modi include highly anticipated railway projects and a major coal gasification initiative, according to officials.

Murmu, born on June 20, 1958, in Padiebeda village of Mayurbhanj district, began her political career as a councillor for Rairangpur Municipality in 1997. She later served as an MLA, a minister, the governor of Jharkhand, and ultimately as the President of India.

“Given that she began her political journey from Rairangpur town, her birthday visit is regarded as significant and a day of joy for the local populace,” an official at the Chief Minister’s Office stated. According to the schedule, Murmu will arrive in Rairangpur on June 19, while Modi will reach the tribal town the following day.

To ensure the smooth execution of this high-profile visit and enhance security measures, the Chief Minister has instructed all departments to collaborate closely to avoid any issues, particularly during the large public meeting and the movement of VVIPs. Officials have reported that special arrangements have been made by the state government and local administration to welcome the President in her birthplace. The review meeting included senior officials, including Chief Secretary Anu Garg.
