Bhubaneswar: Following a short respite, Odisha is set to face ongoing heavy rain and thunderstorms for the upcoming week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announcement made on Monday.
The weather organization has placed a yellow alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms across various regions of the state until the morning of August 10.
In its midday report, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar highlighted the possibility of significant rainfall in areas within Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati over the next 24 hours.
Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph, are expected in several locations across Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada during this period.
On August 4-5, particularly heavy rainfall is predicted for parts of Mayurbhanj.
Thunderstorms, along with lightning and strong winds, may also occur at isolated spots in the aforementioned districts.
From August 5-6, heavy rain is forecasted to impact districts such as Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati.
Thunderstorm conditions with lightning and gusty winds are anticipated in one or two locations across several districts, including those listed above.
On August 6-7, the potential for heavy rain continues for select areas in Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, and Gajapati.
Thunderstorms with gusty winds might also occur in various districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
Heavy rainfall is expected in the districts of Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Kendujhar, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Nayagada on August 7-8.
Moreover, thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds are likely in one or two locations across the same range of districts.
The IMD has also indicated the persistence of heavy rainfall in the districts of Kandhamala, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam until the morning of August 10.
