Bhubaneswar: Heavy rainfall is expected to return to various regions of Odisha following a two-day lull, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.
The depression that had formed over northern Jharkhand, along with parts of southwest Bihar and southeast Uttar Pradesh, has weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area.
While the state will experience a brief pause in rainfall activities, the intensity is predicted to rise starting on the morning of August 21, with several areas also likely to witness thunderstorms.
In its midday weather report, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued a yellow warning for heavy rain in certain areas, specifically targeting the districts of Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj for August 21-22.
Thunderstorms, along with lightning and strong surface winds of 30-40 km/h, are anticipated in some locations within these districts during this time.
For August 22-23, a yellow warning has been issued for heavy rain across Baleshwar, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj.
Similar thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds, may affect one or two areas in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Sambalpur, Debagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj during this period.
On August 23-24, heavy rain is likely in select areas within Baleshwar, Sundargarh, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj, with a yellow warning issued for these districts as well.
Thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds are also expected in one or two places across the same districts mentioned earlier.
Lastly, for August 24-25, a yellow warning has been declared for heavy rain in certain areas of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj. Heavy rainfall is predicted to impact Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj on August 25-26.
