Bhubaneswar: Satya Bhusan Sahu, a senior leader of the Congress party and a three-time former MLA representing the Padampur constituency, died on Wednesday while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 73 years old.

A significant figure in the political arena of Odisha, Sahu held the Padampur Assembly seat during three different terms: in 1980, 1985, and 2004. Renowned for his legislative skills and expertise, he held several important roles during his time in the Assembly, particularly as the Government Chief Whip.

Chief Minister Mohan Majhi expressed profound sadness over Sahu’s passing, offering prayers to Lord Jagannath for the soul’s peaceful journey and extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

In her condolence statement, Surama Padhy, the Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, remarked that Sahu’s election victories reflect his significant popularity among the constituents. She emphasized his invaluable contributions to the development of the Padampur region, along with his distinguished service as Chief Whip in the State Legislative Assembly.
