Passengers traveling throughout Odisha will now face slightly higher fares as private bus ticket prices have been adjusted upward across various categories. The new fare structure impacts ordinary, express, deluxe, AC deluxe, and super premium buses operating statewide. This fare increase is attributed to rising fuel prices and escalating operational costs for transport operators.
According to the updated notification, the new fares per kilometer are as follows:
- Ordinary buses: Increased from 88 paise to 90 paise per km
- Express buses: Increased from 92 paise to 94 paise per km
- Deluxe buses: Increased from ₹1.27 to ₹1.31 per km
- AC Deluxe buses: Increased from ₹1.55 to ₹1.59 per km
- Super Premium buses: Increased by 6 paise to ₹2.47 per km
The fare adjustment comes as transport operators nationwide grapple with fluctuating fuel prices, maintenance costs, and operational expenses. Private bus owners in Odisha have been advocating for a fare revision for several weeks, citing the rising costs of diesel, spare parts, and vehicle servicing.
Although the increase per kilometer may seem minimal, frequent travelers and daily commuters could notice the impact on long-distance travel expenses. Passengers traveling between major cities such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, and Sambalpur are expected to encounter slightly higher ticket prices moving forward. Transport officials stated that the fare adjustment aims to maintain operational sustainability while ensuring continued public transport services across the state.
