Bhubaneswar: On Wednesday, Naveen Patnaik, the president of the BJD and Leader of Opposition, strongly criticized the BJP leaders, ministers, and MPs from Odisha, accusing them of being in Delhi while the state grapples with devastating floods.

In a post on his X account, Patnaik raised concerns about their lack of presence in Odisha during this emergency.

“Are Odisha BJP leaders feasting in Delhi amid the horrors of the floods in Odisha?”

He pointed out that relentless heavy rainfall has left the entire state in a state of crisis, noting that both the Chief Minister and significant BJP figures, including Members of Parliament, are currently in Delhi. Patnaik questioned, “In such untimely circumstances, what could be more serious than the safety of their own people?”

The BJD leader highlighted the severe difficulties faced by residents in various districts, such as Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, and Sambalpur. He conveyed his sorrow over the reports of innocent lives lost due to the floods.

“Instead of standing firmly with the people during such untimely calamity, accusations of government negligence are pouring in thick and fast,”

Patnaik remarked.

He reminded everyone that the mantra ‘Every Life is Valuable’ has guided Odisha’s approach to handling natural disasters, earning the state international recognition. “Yet, the representatives elected by the people — failing to effectively manage the flood situation — are abandoning the people, leaving everyone stunned,” he claimed.

Patnaik urged the government to avoid being “insensitive” and to support the citizens during this challenging time.
