In a noteworthy anti-corruption case, the Odisha Vigilance has achieved a conviction against a former Senior Surgery Specialist at the Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital.

Dr. Debendranath Nayak, who previously held the position of Senior Surgery Specialist, was found guilty by the Special Judge for Vigilance in Sambalpur. He has been sentenced to four years of rigorous imprisonment along with a monetary fine.

Nayak faced charges under Section 13(2) along with Section 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for soliciting and accepting a bribe from a complainant for performing a hydrocele operation on his cousin.

As a result of his conviction, Dr. Nayak has been remanded to jail to serve his sentence. Following this ruling, Odisha Vigilance plans to approach the relevant authority to initiate the process of terminating Dr. Nayak’s pension.
