The Odisha Vigilance has successfully secured a conviction against Amiya Kumar Behera, a former assistant sub-inspector at the Jenapur Police Station in Jajpur, who is currently assigned to the Athagada Police Station in Kataka, in connection with a bribery case.

Behera faced charges under Sections 13(2) in conjunction with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for soliciting and accepting a bribe from a complainant to settle a miscellaneous complaint filed at the Jenapur Police Station.

On Thursday, the Special Judge for Vigilance in Kataka found Behera guilty and imposed a sentence of four years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a monetary fine. After the ruling, he was taken into custody to begin serving his sentence.

In light of the conviction, Odisha Vigilance has stated its intention to approach the appropriate authority to seek Behera’s dismissal from his position. Officials noted that this ruling underscores the agency’s dedication to promoting transparency and accountability within the police force.
