Two separate elephant attacks in Angul district, Odisha, resulted in the tragic deaths of an elderly man and a woman on Monday.
In one incident, 65-year-old Gandharba Sahu was trampled by an elephant near Musapapuli village in the Angul forest area. Reports indicate that Sahu ventured into the forest around 6:30 AM, where he encountered a wild elephant that attacked him, causing fatal injuries.
Villagers reported the incident to the Forest Department, and the body is expected to undergo an autopsy.
In another incident, a woman was killed by a lone tusker while she was gathering mangoes near Nuagaon village in the Chhendipada block. She succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance could arrive.
Forest Department officials promptly arrived at both locations to monitor elephant movements and have warned local villagers.
