Raurkela: Authorities in Odisha’s Sundaragada district have taken a man and his wife into custody after they were accused of defrauding an individual of more than ₹1.26 crore. The couple allegedly offered to double the victim’s investment through various schemes.

The suspects are Abinash Grahacharya, aged 42, and his 40-year-old wife Indulekha Ojha, both residents of Berhampur village in Baleshwar district.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police S N Samad, the couple was arrested in Baripada, located in Mayurbhanj district. The victim filed a complaint on April 17, claiming that the couple had deceived him and his spouse out of ₹1.26 crore by promising high interest and significant growth on their investments.

In response to the complaint, police registered a case under sections 318(2), 318(4), and 3(5) of the BNS and initiated an investigation. It was uncovered that the accused had a history of defrauding other unsuspecting victims in a similar manner.

“We opened a case against the couple in April this year based on the complaint filed by the Sundaragada victim,” the officer noted.

The couple had established a company and set up offices in multiple locations, including Bhubaneswar, where they attracted investors with deceptive promises of high returns. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify any additional individuals involved in the cyber fraud.
