The Mancheswar division of Bhubaneswar Police has detained a major suspect, Jitendra Kumar Bagarti, commonly referred to as Jitu, for reportedly swindling job applicants out of more than ₹44.76 lakh by falsely claiming he could secure them positions within the Indian Railways.

As outlined by police reports, the suspect presented himself as a person of influence with significant connections to lure in naive job seekers. He ran a sophisticated fraudulent railway recruitment website, accumulating cash and numerous bank transfers that totaled over ₹44.76 lakh from victims during different stages of the scam.

After receiving the substantial sum, Jitu failed to deliver on his job promises and did not return the funds. When the victims sought refunds, he began to avoid their requests and eventually resorted to threats, warning them of violence if they persisted in demanding their money.

After a formal complaint was lodged, the Mancheswar Police swiftly launched an investigation that led to Jitu’s arrest. Investigators discovered that he is a repeat offender, with previous cheating and fraud allegations filed against him at the Chandrasekharpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

Authorities have commenced a wider investigation to ascertain if Jitu has victimized other job seekers across different districts in Odisha using similar tactics. Ongoing inquiries aim to reveal the full scale of the scam and track down the illicit gains.
