The remnants of Cyclone Arnab are fading into a well-defined low-pressure area located over northern Chhattisgarh and nearby northwest Odisha. Meanwhile, a new low-pressure system over the South Andaman Sea is projected to evolve into a depression by Saturday, October 31, 2026.
In an update released by the IMD Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar on Friday, October 30, it was noted that this new weather system is likely to travel west-northwest across the southeastern Bay of Bengal, moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coastline over the subsequent two days.
Immediate Local Impact and Regional Weather Alerts
Although the immediate dangers posed by Cyclone Arnab have diminished, residual atmospheric instability continues to affect the northern and western regions of Odisha as the new system approaches:
- 24-Hour Period Ending 8:30 AM, Oct 31: A Yellow Warning is in effect for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sambalpur districts, forecasting isolated thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 30-40 km/h (with gusts up to 50 km/h).

Orange Warning Issued for Malkangiri for Nov 2-3
As the anticipated depression approaches the Eastern Coast, rainfall is expected to increase in southern Odisha. The IMD has issued an Orange Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Malkangiri district, effective for the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 AM on November 3.
At the same time, a Yellow Warning remains active for heavy rainfall across Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati, and Ganjam districts. Local authorities in southern Odisha, who are already addressing infrastructure repairs and rising river levels, particularly the Harabhangi River in Gajapati, have been advised to maintain preparedness for potential disasters.
