Tragic Fire in Jajpur Claims Life of Young Girl and Injures Parents

A routine Sunday morning turned into a heartbreaking disaster in Arabala village, Jajpur district, Odisha, when a suspected Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) leak ignited a massive domestic fire. The incident led to the death of a five-year-old girl and critically injured three family members.

The incident unfolded around 6:30 AM as 35-year-old Tilottama Malik was busy cooking breakfast. Preliminary investigations suggest that a gas pipe burst unexpectedly, causing flames to erupt and envelop the kitchen area, catching the family off guard.

The intense fire trapped the family inside their home, resulting in severe burn injuries. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to help and called for local emergency services.

The young victim, identified as Mamali Malik, was transported to the Dharmasala Community Health Centre (CHC) along with her injured relatives. Unfortunately, medical personnel pronounced her dead upon arrival due to the extent of her burn injuries.

Mamali’s parents, Tilottama and her husband Abhiram Malik, aged 40, suffered critical burns in the fire, while her uncle, Uttam Malik, aged 50, was also injured while trying to extinguish the flames.

Due to the severity of their conditions, medical staff at the Dharmasala CHC provided immediate care before transferring Abhiram, Tilottama, and Uttam to the specialized burn unit at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment.

Fire service teams and police from the Kotpur outpost quickly secured the area in Arabala village. An official investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the gas leak and to evaluate whether safety measures or defective equipment played a role in this tragic incident.
