Possible Low Pressure System Could Bring Rain to Odisha for Durga Puja

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that a low pressure system may form over the Bay of Bengal around October 13, increasing the chances of rainfall in Odisha during the Durga Puja celebration.

Currently, a cyclonic circulation is present over the Gulf of Thailand and its vicinity, extending up to 7.6 kilometers above sea level. This system is expected to move into the Andaman Sea by October 11. The IMD predicts that a low pressure area could develop in the southeast Bay of Bengal as a result of this system.

The weather forecast arrives just ahead of Durga Puja, which is scheduled to commence in Odisha on October 16. Should the system gain strength and approach the Odisha coastline, it may influence weather conditions during the festive period. However, the exact trajectory and impact of the system on Odisha will be better understood in due course.

In the meantime, the process of the southwest monsoon’s withdrawal from Odisha is currently taking place. The monsoon has started to recede from parts of Baragada, Jharsuguda, and Sundaragada districts, and is expected to pull back from additional areas in eastern India within the next three to four days.

According to the IMD, the southwest monsoon is expected to completely withdraw from the country between October 15 and 21.

Additionally, the weather department has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm activity across several districts in Odisha for the next two days.

Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and strong winds, are anticipated in the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj over the next 24 hours.

A yellow warning has also been issued for these same districts on October 10-11.

The weather agency has urged residents to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions during the expected thunderstorm activity.
