The police in Bhubaneswar have achieved a notable advancement in their investigation following the acquisition of CCTV footage featuring a suspect in a gunpoint rape case.

Two days after the alleged assault in the Behera Sahi area of Nayapalli, authorities recovered the footage while reviewing CCTV recordings from cameras located near the crime scene and along nearby streets. Investigators believe the suspect escaped towards CRP Square and may have boarded an Ama Bus before fleeing the vicinity. Furthermore, law enforcement suspects that he may have stolen a motorcycle during his getaway.

To apprehend the suspect, four teams have been established under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bhubaneswar. One of these teams is focused on gathering information about young men residing in the neighborhood where the survivor lives, as the area is known for having numerous hostels and paying guest accommodations, leading investigators to believe the suspect could have been staying in one of these places.

The incident reportedly occurred late on Wednesday night when the survivor was at home with her elder sister, who was not present during the attack. The victim claimed that an unknown assailant forcibly entered their rented home, brandished a weapon, and sexually assaulted her before fleeing.

Authorities are currently scrutinizing the CCTV evidence, the Ama Bus route, forensic details, statements from the survivor, and insights from local residents to piece together the suspect’s movements and identity.

The Commissionerate Police has stated that they are working diligently to capture the suspect as soon as possible. In a related development, the Odisha State Commission for Women has taken notice of the incident and requested a report from the Bhubaneswar DCP within a 15-day timeframe.

The investigation is ongoing, with police striving to clarify the full sequence of events and identify the individual responsible for this heinous act.
