Balangir: Authorities in Odisha’s Balangir district have detained a teacher for reportedly sending inappropriate messages to a female student.

The incident occurred at a government school in Limpada, which falls under the Sindhekela police station in the Titlagarh block.

The teacher, identified as 28-year-old Teker Singh Majhi from Badpatrapali village, teaches mathematics at the institution.

As per the complaint filed by the girl’s family, the inappropriate messages began several months ago. It was claimed that Majhi also made numerous phone calls to the student, urging her to meet him privately in the school library. Following her refusal, he allegedly became aggressive towards her. Initially, the girl did not speak out due to fear.

While her parents are employed in Tamil Nadu, the girl resides with her uncle’s family in the village. Upon discovering the situation, her uncle approached the school and urged the teacher to stop the harassment.

Subsequently, the uncle gathered chat logs and additional evidence from the girl’s mobile device and filed a formal complaint at the Sindhekela police station.

In response, law enforcement registered a case and initiated an investigation, leading to the teacher’s arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
