Puri: On Thursday, the district administration of Puri in Odisha announced a temporary ban on sea bathing at Puri beach. This decision comes in response to rough sea conditions resulting from a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal.

The deep depression has caused a notable increase in both the height and intensity of tides along the Puri coastline. With turbulent waters and persistent heavy rainfall affecting coastal Odisha, the authorities have enforced restrictions prohibiting both tourists and residents from entering the sea until conditions improve.

Areas identified as danger zones have been marked, and red warning flags have been displayed. Lifeguards and Fire Services personnel are closely monitoring the beach, while law enforcement officials are using loudspeakers to advise the public against approaching the sea.

In light of the deep depression, fishermen are also forbidden from going out to sea along the Odisha and Puri coasts. An emergency alert has been issued, with officials in fishing communities making announcements to inform residents of the risks.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reiterated its warnings, urging fishermen to refrain from venturing into both the sea and Chilika Lake until there is a significant improvement in weather conditions.
