Sujit Kumar Roul, the Senior Superintendent of Choudwar Circle Jail, has been arrested in relation to alleged tampering with jail records connected to the escape of two inmates in 2025.

A police team consisting of ten officers apprehended Roul at his home in Saheed Nagar, Bhubaneswar, and transported him to Choudwar police station. This incident escalated after two criminals from Bihar, Raja Sahani and Madhukant Kumar, escaped during the Dussehra celebrations on October 3, 2025. Both individuals were subsequently captured.

In January 2026, former jailer Santosini Das accused Roul of facilitating the escape. Investigators uncovered inconsistencies in the minute book and the entry-exit logs, which indicated that Roul was on duty continuously, contradicting evidence from CCTV footage. Additionally, a forged signature of Das was found within the records.

Roul failed to produce the minute book after being summoned multiple times, claiming it was lost. The situation escalated to the Orissa High Court, where he initially received interim protection, but his request for anticipatory bail was later denied. Following the withdrawal of this protection, Roul went missing on August 29 and was subsequently arrested.

This arrest has prompted increased scrutiny regarding prison management and accountability in Odisha, highlighting potential systemic issues within correctional facilities.
