On Saturday, President Droupadi Murmu presented the National Teachers Awards to 48 dedicated educators during a ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, coinciding with Teachers’ Day celebrations on September 5 in New Delhi. The honorees were chosen through a comprehensive three-stage selection process and represent a wide array of regions, including 27 states, seven Union Territories, and six central government organizations.
At the event, short documentaries were shown, spotlighting the remarkable achievements of each awardee and their influence on the educational landscape and their students’ lives. Expressing her appreciation for the teaching profession, President Murmu stated, “I feel happy to be here among the teachers. I still recall my teachers; it was due to their love and affection that I succeeded in life and am standing here today.” She also shared fond memories of her own students from the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre in Rairangpur, Odisha, emphasizing the valuable lessons she learned from them.
During her address, the President paid homage to Savitribai Phule, acknowledging her vital role in advancing education for girls. The annual event is organized by the Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education to honor some of the nation’s most outstanding educators with the National Teachers Awards. This initiative recognizes teachers who have shown exceptional dedication to their roles.
The purpose of the National Teachers Awards is to celebrate the unique contributions of exemplary teachers and to honor those who have significantly enhanced the educational landscape through their unwavering commitment and hard work. For the upcoming National Teachers Awards 2026, eligible teachers were invited to submit online self-nominations via the Ministry of Education’s portal from June 15 to July 20.
This year, the Department of School Education and Literacy selected 48 teachers through a meticulous three-stage process conducted at the District, State, and National levels. Among the selected recipients, there were 26 men and 22 women, showcasing the diversity of educators contributing to various regions and administrative areas of India.
