Kalinganagar (Odisha): A woman residing in the Kalinganagar region of Jajpur district in Odisha has reportedly been gang-raped after being misled to an unused guest house with claims that her husband had been involved in an accident, according to police reports.

The victim’s family home falls under the jurisdiction of the Sukinda police station. Due to reported marital issues, she had been living at her sister’s residence in Kalinganagar. Her husband worked at a hotel on Jajpur Road, where he was acquainted with one of the suspects, Kahu Sahu, who was employed as a cook.

On the afternoon of September 1, Kahu allegedly contacted the woman, claiming that her husband had been injured in an accident in Chandikhole and urged her to come immediately. Trusting his words, she took a bus and arrived in Chandikhole around 6 pm.

Upon her arrival, Kahu and another young man reportedly picked her up and drove her to a deserted guest house close to Chandi Mandir. The two men were said to be drinking alcohol at that location. Kahu then allegedly raped the victim, and when she attempted to fight back, he reportedly assaulted her before both men proceeded to gang-rape her.

Afterward, the accused allegedly abandoned her, leaving her unconscious on the roadside. Once she regained consciousness, she reached out to a relative who came to her aid, took her to Sukinda, and subsequently, she filed a complaint at the Kalinganagar police station.

Initially, police are said to have hesitated in registering her case; however, they later filed charges under Sections 70(1), 115(2), and 123 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Reports indicate that both suspects have been detained and are currently undergoing interrogation. An investigation into the incident’s circumstances has been initiated by the police.
