The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced that Odisha will experience a surge in rainfall starting September 8, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds across various districts.

The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre indicated that the monsoon trough, which currently extends from Rajasthan through Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, will impact Odisha, leading to light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and squalls.

Prior to September 8, light rain or thunderstorms may still occur in certain areas, with yellow warnings issued for northern and eastern regions where wind speeds could reach 30-40 km/h.

From September 8 onward, the rainfall intensity is expected to rise significantly, with accompanying lightning and thunder. Districts such as Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Ganjam, Puri, and Khordha are predicted to experience more severe weather conditions.

Between September 9 and 12, heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm is expected in isolated locations, especially in Baleshwar, Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, and neighboring areas, where yellow warnings are still in effect.

According to officials, districts in western and southern Odisha, including Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Balangir, are likely to face lesser impact from these weather conditions.
