Odisha Braces for Increased Rainfall as New Low-Pressure System Approaches

A new weather system is expected to emerge, influenced by an upper-air cyclonic circulation situated over the north-west Bay of Bengal and nearby regions. This circulation stretches up to 7.6 kilometers above sea level and is currently tilting southwest, as reported by the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.

In response to the forecast, a yellow warning has been issued for the state of Odisha, valid for the next 24 hours, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in numerous districts.

The weather system is projected to remain active, with rainfall expected to persist in Odisha until August 14.

According to Manorama Mohanty, the director of the Regional Meteorological Centre, the upper-air cyclonic circulation is anticipated to strengthen into a low-pressure area by August 12.

Additionally, the weather office predicts ongoing rainfall in parts of western and northern Odisha on August 15 and 16.

As this system develops over the Bay of Bengal, residents in susceptible areas are being urged to stay vigilant, especially in districts forecasted to receive heavy rainfall.
