Bhubaneswar: Two horrifying cases of patricide have emerged from different locations in Odisha on the same day, where two individuals allegedly took the lives of their fathers in brutal assaults.

In Bhubaneswar, a son is suspected of murdering his father following a familial dispute in Chakeisiani, near Mancheswar. The blood-stained body of the victim was discovered by police near Manchanath High School and has been sent to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities have detained the son and are currently questioning him to uncover the motive behind this horrific act.

Similarly, Sambalpur district witnessed a tragic event where Dhaneshwar Bhoi, aged 65, was reportedly killed by his son Gobinda Bhoi, 45, in Manapali village under the jurisdiction of Kuchinda police station.

Reports indicate that a heated argument erupted between the father and son on Monday night. In a moment of anger, Gobinda attacked his father with an axe while Dhaneshwar was sleeping, causing severe injuries. The critically hurt Dhaneshwar was initially taken to Kuchinda Hospital and then referred to VIMSAR Burla via a 108 ambulance. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries en route at Laida, where his body is now at Laida Hospital.

Kuchinda police have filed a case and are conducting an investigation.

These incidents have sent shockwaves throughout the state, raising alarms about the increasing incidence of domestic violence and mental health issues within families.

Authorities in both cases are diligently exploring the circumstances and motivations that led to these alarming patricide events.
