Puri: A 25-year-old woman was discovered dead in the swimming pool of a hotel in Odisha’s Puri on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as Sumitra Mohapatra, a resident of Goudabada Sahi. She reportedly attended a dance and music performance at a bachelor party held at a hotel in the Chakratirtha Road area.

According to sources, the incident was revealed when hotel staff noticed the body floating in the pool and promptly notified the local police. A team from the Sea Beach police station arrived at the scene, retrieved the body, and transported it to Puri District Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Sumitra’s family has alleged that she was murdered after the event and that her body was disposed of in the pool to simulate a drowning accident. They have raised concerns regarding the involvement of the party organizers and another woman who accompanied her to the hotel, calling for a comprehensive investigation to identify those accountable.

However, the police have currently dismissed the possibility of foul play. Sea Beach police station IIC Manas Chakra stated that CCTV footage from the hotel did not reveal any suspicious behavior. “The evidence suggests she drowned. We are now awaiting the postmortem report,” he added.
