Odisha Youth Drowns While Filming Reel in Bhadrak River

A youth lost his life while trying to create a reel by jumping into the Salanadi river in Bhadrak district on Thursday. The victim has been identified as Mithun Nayak, a resident of Turnunga village in Keonjhar district, located approximately 40 kilometers from Bhadrak.

The incident took place around 10 a.m. when Mithun and his friend Sekhar Nayak leaped into the river from the Santia bridge, within the jurisdiction of Bhadrak Old Bazar police station. While Sekhar was able to swim to safety, Mithun drowned.

Police reports suggest that Mithun’s head may have struck a stone, resulting in injuries that led to his drowning. Local residents quickly attempted to locate him, and both fire service personnel and police soon arrived at the scene.

After an extensive search lasting over two and a half hours, officials recovered Mithun’s body. The police have detained the third friend who was filming the video. The three young men were laborers in Bhadrak and had taken a break from work to film the reels.
