A tragic incident occurred today in Angul district of Odisha during Shravan Monday, as two Kawadias were caught in a canal’s powerful currents. While one individual has been rescued, the other remains unaccounted for.
The event transpired near the bridge over Lingara Nala, where the two devotees had gone to collect water.
The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed.
Reports indicate that the Kawadias were at Lingara Nala gathering water for the Jalabhishek ceremony at Tipirisingha Temple when they were suddenly swept away by the strong water flow.
Locals managed to save one of them, but the second individual has not been found.
Upon receiving the alarm, the Angul Fire Services team promptly arrived at the scene. A thorough search and rescue operation is currently in progress to locate the missing Kawadia.
In light of recent rainfall, the water levels in the nala have surged, resulting in swift currents. Authorities are advising the public to exercise caution around rivers, nalas, and other bodies of water.
