School Holidays: Uttar Pradesh to Start Summer Vacation Tomorrow, State-Wise Updates Available

Temperatures have reached approximately 45 degrees Celsius in multiple states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Telangana. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of a more severe heat wave from mid-May to June. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued for Jammu, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh from May 18 to May 24.

In response to the extreme heat and heatwave conditions, state governments and district administrations have announced early and extended summer vacations for schools, applicable to institutions under all boards, including CBSE and ICSE.

In Delhi, summer vacation commenced on May 11, with schools set to reopen on July 1. The capital may face heatwaves from May 19 to May 22, with temperatures expected to hit 45°C.

In Uttar Pradesh, the official school calendar indicates that summer vacation will start on May 20 and last until June 15. However, many private schools have already begun holidays from May 15. Schools in districts near Delhi, such as Noida and Ghaziabad, have been directed to operate only from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Rajasthan’s Education Department has announced a 35-day summer vacation from May 17 to June 20.

In Haryana, the summer vacation has not been officially declared yet. Schools are anticipated to close from June 1 to June 30, although this may change based on weather forecasts.

Bihar has scheduled summer vacation from June 1 to June 20, offering students 20 days off.

In southern states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have declared holidays from April 24 to June 11 due to severe weather. Chhattisgarh schools are closed from April 20 to June 15, and Odisha has extended school holidays starting from April 27.
