Kendujhar: On Friday, a minor girl was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted by a relative, who also attempted to murder her, in a village located in Odisha’s Kendujhar district.

Initial reports indicate that locals were able to subdue the suspect, who has since been turned over to the authorities. The incident unfolded in the Raigoda area within the Sadar police jurisdiction of the Banspal block.

According to sources, the perpetrator, a truck driver, kidnapped the girl using his vehicle and transported her to a remote area where he assaulted her. After the assault, he attempted to kill her by striking her with a stone. The girl’s cries drew the attention of nearby residents, who rushed to help and found her in a severe state.

Community members managed to apprehend the suspect, beat him, and subsequently handed him over to the police. The girl was transported to a hospital via ambulance for urgent medical care.

Investigators from the Shuakati outpost have taken the suspect into custody and initiated an inquiry. Officials have confirmed that the charges include kidnapping, sexual assault, and attempted murder.

The incident has incited unrest in the community, leading residents to block the Raigoda-Rangadihi road in protest, calling for stringent action against the accused and enhanced safety measures for minors.
