Bhubaneswar: In an effort to enhance safety in public and shared transportation, Odisha’s Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched the Odisha Yatri Safety App on Monday, August 31. This app features one-click SOS assistance, live location sharing, and various emergency-response functionalities.
The launch coincided with Local Self-Government Day and was attended by Housing & Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and the brand ambassador for Odisha Yatri, actress Archita Sahu.
The safety module is now part of the Odisha Yatri platform, designed to give both passengers and drivers quick access to emergency help when needed.
A standout feature of the app is the Shake & Alert option, which allows users to activate an emergency alert simply by shaking their phone. This is particularly useful in scenarios where navigating through the app may not be feasible.
Additionally, the app includes a one-click SOS function that enables users to call the emergency number 112 instantly and inform their designated emergency contacts.
Passengers can also share their live location with trusted individuals, allowing those contacts to monitor their journey in real time. The app provides swift access to police, ambulance, and fire services.
These safety features are designed for both passengers and drivers, with the government highlighting the importance of a readily accessible emergency mechanism during urgent situations.

While launching the app, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the necessity of safe, accessible, and reliable mobility for fostering citizen-friendly and prosperous urban areas. He asserted that technology should bolster public confidence, empowering citizens, particularly women, to travel independently and securely.
Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra remarked that this initiative demonstrates the Odisha government’s dedication to creating a modern urban transport framework centered on safety, dignity, and convenience.
Brand ambassador Archita Sahu encouraged citizens, especially women and youth, to utilize the platform and understand its safety features, stating that this initiative places essential safety tools and immediate assistance directly at passengers’ fingertips.
Odisha Yatri serves as an integrated mobility platform, offering services such as ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking, and boating options. With the addition of the safety module, the platform aims to deliver a more convenient, affordable, and secure travel experience throughout the state.
Citizens can download or update the Odisha Yatri app to take advantage of the new safety features.
