Odisha is currently facing extreme heat during the daytime and Kalbaisakhi storms in the evening, prompting alerts across 21 districts.

The India Meteorological Department has reported that western Odisha districts are enduring severe heatwave conditions. Areas such as Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Nuapada have recorded temperatures exceeding 37°C, leading authorities to issue heatwave alerts for these regions.

Concurrently, Kalbaisakhi storms are anticipated in more than half of Odisha’s districts. Yellow alerts have been issued for coastal and central districts, while Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj have received orange alerts. Forecasts indicate thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and wind speeds of 50 to 60 km per hour.

The combination of heatwaves and Kalbaisakhi storms has raised concerns among residents, and authorities have urged the public to exercise caution and avoid exposure during peak heat hours while preparing for the evening storms.
